15TH JUNE 1996

ORDER OF CEREMONY

Members and guests are invited to take their seats in Town Hall Square by 10.45 am to enjoy commentary by John Florance of BBC Radio Leicester.

The Markers of the Royal Anglian Regiment will march on to Town Hall Square at 11.05am, followed shortly afterwards by the Parade.

The Colour Party will then arrive.

The Right Worshipful the Lord Mayor of Leicester, Councillor Culdipp Batty, will cross Town Hall Square escorted by the Colonel of the Regiment, Major General Patrick Stone CB CBE.

The Mayoral Party will also comprise: Mr Nicholas Corah DL, High Sheriff of Leicestershire; Councillor Ray Flint JP, Deputy Lord Mayor; Councillor Ned Newitt, High Bailiff; Mr Arthur Price-Jones, Town Clerk; The Very Reverend Derek Hole, Provost of Leicester and Spiritual Advisor to the Lord Mayor; Representatives of the Gild of Freemen and the Leicestershire Constabulary.

After the salute, the Parade Commander will invite the Lord Mayor to inspect the Parade. The Colonel of the Regiment will accompany the Lord Mayor.

The Deed of Grant: Town Clerk

Speech by the Lord Mayor.

The Town Crier to read out letters from Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and Princess Alice.

The Lord Mayor will present the Illuminated Deed of Grant to the Colonel of the Regiment, conferring the Freedom of Entry to the City on the Royal Anglian Regiment.

The Colonel will make a speech of reply.

The Parade will come to attention and give a General Salute.

The Parade, led by the Minden Band, will leave Town Hall Square via Bishop Street to exercise the Freedom of Entry.

The Lord Mayor will take the salute from the Parade on Gallowtree Gate.

Immediately after the ceremony, guests are invited to make their way to the City Rooms, Hotel Street, for the civic reception.
