1234 -1342 SIMON CURLEVACHE and WILLIAM de St. LO.
(Joint)
(4)
The latter was elected alderman 27 February 1234 to act in conjunction with Simon Curlevache. Both continued to hold the office jointly until about 1242, when William de St. Lo, or Sancto Laudo and Seynlo as he is sometimes called, continued alone several years. He entered the gild in 1211 and was living in 1253. The name of Will de Seynlowe, perhaps a descendant, occurs on a local tallage roll dated 1318.
According to the historian Nichols, the ancient arms of the St. Lo or St. Loe family were:- Argent, a bend sable, a label of three points gules. Burke ascribes these arms, which were to be seen on a panel in St. Mary's church, Leic. two centuries ago, to the St. Lo family of Chideock, but whether they were actually used by the above-named alderman and his descendants, is not certain.
