Admitted into the gild merchant 1239-40. He received the mayoralty through the influence and recommendation of the great earl Simon de Montfort, 23 January 1258, with whom he was a great favourite, an office which he held for twelve successive years. He is occasionally styled "alderman" on the gild rolls, was a bailiff in 1270, and was living in 1286. William de Rodington or Ruddington, a presumed descendant, was M.P. for Leic. 1323 and 1325.
