An active and rich burgess of the thirteenth century whose name frequently occurs in the records. He was in all probability a son of Roger le Engleys of Leic. 1269, was bailiff or reeve of Leic. for several years, again mayor 1278 to 1280, 1289 and for the sixth time elected in 1293, at which date his name occurs in that capacity in a Rothley deed of 14 August 1294, now preserved with the muniments at Leic. Museum.
According to the Assize roll (No. 464), 2 August 1294, he recovered seisin of a considerable estate at Thringstone, co. Leic., consisting of a free tenement, three messuages, ninety acres of land, six of meadow and twenty acres of wood. In addition he possessed a small estate at Wigston Magna. He witnessed deeds as late as 1299, and appears to have died soon after that year leaving a son, Hugh le Engleys.
