Believed to have been a son of John Gunfrey of Leic. He was a bailiff in 1297, again mayor in 1288, 1290, 1292, 1294 and for the eighth time in 1302. He was living in 1305 but appears to have died shortly afterwards, leaving issue. One Agnes Gunfrey, perhaps his widow, was living here in 1318, and descendants are mentioned in the local records at a much later date.
