Bellfounder.
Believed to have been a son of Richard de Stafford of Leic., "wryght," living 1343; was admitted into the gild merchant 1338~9, resided in the north quarter of the borough near All Saints' church and was a member of the gild of the Assumption of the Blessed Mary in that church. He was a bellfounder of some note, a few of his bells still remaining in the county. His name occurs in the Tallage roll of 1354 as John de Stafford, "bell~eyetere." He was again mayor 1370, 1371 and 1381, M.P. for the borough in four Parliaments and was living in 1392.
