1460 ROBERT SHERINGHAM (2)

1460 ROBERT SHERINGHAM

(102)

(Draper).

Perhaps a descendant of John Schyryngham, a member of the gild merchant 1378. He resided in the Saturday Market, was M.P. for Leic. 1459 and 1467, again mayor 1470, and appears to have died about 1484 leaving besides other issue, a son William.

A.D. 1460 "This same year of our Lord 1460 was three fields more fought-one at Wakefield, another at St. Alban's, and another at Mortimer's Cross-Robert Skillington then mayor" (Herrick Roll of Mayors).

(King Henry VI deposed 1461. Edward IV proclaimed king 4 March 1461 and crowned 27 July the same year).

A.D. 1461 "May 1. King Edward the Fourth married Lady Elizabeth Gray, relict of John Gray of Groby, at Grafton in Northamptonshire; the first of our kings that ever married his own subject since the Norman invasion. Began to reign in 1461, March 4" (Private list of Mayors).

1470 ROBERT SHERINGHAM. (2)

(King Henry VI, a prisoner in the Tower, died in May 1471).
