1465 ROGER WIGSTON,

Eldest son of William Wigston of Leic., mayor in 1448, and an opulent burgess; born about 1430, elected a chamberlain 1459~60, again mayor 1471 and 1487; M.P. for the borough 1472 and 1489 and alderman of the tenth ward 1484. He died on Friday after Pentecost in Whitsun week 1507, leaving issue, and was buried in the Lady Chapel at St. Martin's. Descendants, the Dilkes of Maxstoke, co. Warwick. Inquisition Post Mortem taken at Loughborough 4 November 1507. It was found that he died seized of the manors of Chadyngworth, Whetstone, Belgrave, Wartnaby and Carlton, and premises in Willoughby Waterless, co. Leic., and that William Wiggeston (the elder) was his son and heir, and was aged forty years and more. (Inq. P.M. co. Leic. 23 Henry VII No. 30). His will, dated 27 April 1505, was proved in the P.C.C., London, 21 June 1507.
