1505 RICHARD REYNOLD.
(133)
(Wool Merchant).
Probably a son of AId. John Reynold, mayor in 1463, and born about 1468 ; was admitted a freeman 1490-1 and served as mayor again in 1513 and 1523. He was a rich wool merchant, being closely connected with the Wigstons and the Gillots. In 1505 property in the "Swines Market" (High Street) was conveyed to him and others. Here he appears to have commenced the building of the mansion house later known as "Reynold Place" which was subsequently enlarged as the town house for the Hastings family. One of the towers of this structure, cased with brickwork, remained until about 1895 when it was taken down for street widening. AId. Reynold died in or about the year 1532 leaving issue by Elizabeth, his wife, and was buried in "Trenyte chapell" in St. Martin's church. His will, dated 1 April 1532, was proved at Leic. shortly after his death. Among the names mentioned is a daughter, Annys Gyllot.
