Perhaps a son or grandson of Thomas Burton of Leic. living 1459. He was born about 1479, admitted a freeman 1500~1, was a coroner in 1504, and again mayor 1527 and 1535. He died in 1536 and if his wishes, as expressed in his will, were carried out, was buried at St. Martin's. Will, dated 18 September 1536, was proved in the P.C.C., London, 24 November 1536 by Mabell Burton, his relict and executrix.
A.D. 1514 "In September, during King Henry's absence in France, the Scotch invaded England but were routed at the battle of Flodden Field. The Scots killed there, were their king, James IV, and three bishops, two abbots, twelve earls, seventeen lords, 8,000 knights and gentlemen, and as many prisoners. On the English side but 1,000 killed." (Private list of Mayors).
