Son of Thomas Stanford of Leic.j born about 1515, enrolled a freeman 1536~7, a chamberlain 1548~9, and again mayor 1573. He died in 1583, leaving issue by Agnes, his wife and was buried at St. Nicholas'. John Stanford, his eldest son was mayor in 1576. His will, proved at Leic. in 1583, is now missing.

The Stanfords entered their Pedigree at the Visitation of co. Leic. 1619 and recorded their Arms :-Argent, three bars azure, on a canton or a fess, and in chief three mascles sable, in chief a mullet charged with a mullet for difference. Crest :-A dexter gauntlet in bend or, grasping a broken sword erect argent, hilted and pomelled sable. Plate 2.
