1566 JOHN TATAM (3)

1566 JOHN TATAM,

(181)

(Tanner).

Believed to have been the eldest son of Thomas Tatam of Leic. 1542, and born about 1520. The roll of freemen records his admission in 1542-3. He became an active member of the corporate body, was elected a chamberlain in 1554, and again mayor in 1577 and 1590. Like other members of his family he was a tanner and appears to have been a man of considerable wealth.

According to the Hall Book of the period he died 7 June and was buried (at St. Margaret's) 8 June 1597. His will, dated 29 May 1597, was proved in the Prebendal Court of the Peculiar of St. Margaret's, Leic., 20 June 1597, and is filed with an earlier dated will at Leic. Registry.
