Probably a son of Thomas Clarke of Keyham, co. Leic. He was born in or about the year 1525, was enrolled a free burgess 1549~50, elected one of the company of the forty~eight shortly afterwards, was a chamberlain 1557, one of the borough bailiffs 1567, again mayor 1585, and M.P. for Leic. 1592. He was an active member of the corporation, a considerable property owner and died leaving issue (vide St. Martin's registers) on Tuesday 16 October 1599, buried at St. Martin's two days later. His will, dated 15 October 1599, was proved in the P.C.C., London, 28 February following.
