1597 THOMAS NIX, (Fishmonger).
(199)
Eldest son of AId. Simon Nix, mayor in 1564; born 1542, enrolled a free burgess 1570~1, resided in the Saturday market, was elected a chamberlain in 1578 and a coroner 1590. He married at Aylestone, 4 October 1574, Alice, daughter of the Rev. Thomas Heathcoat, rector of that parish, by whom he had issue (vide Aylestone registers). He resigned from the corporation about 1600, owing to circumstances brought about through a series of misfortunes, which eventually compelled him in 1626, at the age of eighty-four or thereabout, to seek and obtain financial help from his brethren. An annuity of £5 was then allowed him for life. He was buried at St. Martin's 22 July 1629, aged about eighty-seven.
