1599 EDWARD NEWCOMBE

1599   EDW ARD NEWCOMBE, (Tanner and Bellfounder).

(200)

Second son of AId. Robert Newcombe, mayor in 1550 ; was born about 1545, admitted a freeman 1567,8, later one of the company of the forty, eight or common council, and a chamberlain in 1577. He was a bell, founder of some repute, many of his bells being still in existence. He married at All Saints' 12 January 1573-4 Elizabeth Marcote, by whom he had a numerous family (vide All Saints' registers). His removal from Leic. in 1616 necessitated his resignation from the corporate body. He appears to have settled at Newport Pagnell, Bucks., where he died in 1629. Administration of his personal effects within the Archdeaconry of Leic., was granted at Leic. 6 June 1629, to his son Edward.
