Son of Thomas Johnson, yeoman, of Higham on the
Hill, co. Leic., (called Edward in his father's will) where he was born about 1600, and descended from the Johnsons of Higham and Saddington. He was admitted a free burgess of Leic. as a "stranger" 1623, became a councillor 1627 and an alderman 1642. In 1636 he erected a convenient residence adjoining his business premises at the south west corner of the old West bridge. For an illustration of this building see Flower's Views of Leic. He died leaving issue in 1658 and was buried at St. Mary's 9 September ; will proved in the P.C.C., London, 17 September 1659. Descendants still living.
