1658 SAMUEL WANLEY, (Mercer).

AId. Samuel Wanley was the eldest son of Edward Wanley of Leic., mercer, and was baptized at St. Martin's 14 April 1605. He was admitted a free burgess 1628,9, was one of the chamberlains 1641 and elected an alder, man 4 February 1645,6 ; married and had issue. One of his sons, Rev. Nathaniel Wanley, born 1633, some~ time rector of Beeby, became vicar of Holy Trinity, Coventry, 1662 and died in 1680.

AId. W anley' s mayoralty was short, only lasting fifty days. He entered upon his mayoral duties 29 September 1658 and died intestate 17 November follow~ ing. He was buried at St. Martin's with civic honours 19 November 1658, aged fifty~three. Administration of his effects was granted at Leic. in 1661.

On Thursday, 18 November 1658, the day following AId. Wanley' s death, AId. Richard Ludlam was appointed deputy mayor, and four days later, 22 November, William Franke was chosen and sworn to be mayor for the remainder of the term.
