Eldest son of George and Anne Ludlam of Leic., was
baptized at St. Mary's 7 May 1637, served his apprentice~ ship with AId. William Franke, mercer, was admitted a freeman 26 March 1661, chosen one of the forty~eight, 1664 and an alderman in 1680. In 1688 he, with others, signed the pledge of adhersion to the cause of the Prince of Orange. He married at St. Margaret's 4 November 1663 Anne, daughter of AId. Edward Billers of Leic., by whom, who was buried at St. Martin's 19 April 1689, he had a large family of twelve children, two of his sons filling the civic chair early in the eighteenth century. His eldest son George, born 1667, was a cham~ berlain of the City of London 1718~1727.
AId. Thomas Ludlam died 13 and was buried at St.
Martin's 16 August 1697, aged sixty. M.1. formerly to be seen there. By his will, bearing date 9 April 1696, a long record, he left substantial legacies to his children, to the poor of the several parishes and to the hospitals in Leic. The will was proved in the P.C.C., London, 8 October 1697.
