1686 FRANCIS WARD, (Bookseller and Stationer).

A younger son of AId. William Ward, mayor in 1648 ; was born in 1635, admitted a freeman of the borough 3 August 1657, joined the corporation about 1664, and was a chamberlain in 1668. He resided for some years in a thatched house at the upper end of the north side of the Saturday market. In 1688 he signed the pledge of adhersion to the cause of the Prince of Orange. He married at St. Martin's 18 February 1666,7 Abigail, daughter of AId. John Clay, mayor in 1659, by whom, who was buried there 27 May 1686, he had a large family.

The parish register of St. Martin's records the burial of AId. Ward 31 March 1691. Will, dated 30 December 1690, was proved at Leic. shortly after his death.
