1701 RICHARD TOWNSEND, (Maltster).

Second son of AId. Edmund Townsend, mayor in 1666 ; born 22 January 1654,5, admitted a freeman 30 June 1685, elected a member of the corporation soon afterwards, a chamberlain in 1690 and an alderman in 1693. He resided latterly in Silver Street and was a churchwarden of his parish, St. Martin's, in 1693. In 1719 he voted for freehold property at Glen Parva. AId. Townsend died unmarried and was buried at St. Martin's 23 June 1727, aged seventy,four. His will, in which he described himself as Richard Townsend, gent., dated 19 June 1727, was proved at Leic. 8 July following.

(King William III died 8 March 1702 and was succeeded by his sister,in-law, Anne, the second daughter of James II by Anne Hyde. Queen Anne was crowned 23 April following).
