A prominent and wealthy townsman being the second son of AId. Thomas Ludlam, mayor in 1684. He was baptized at St. Martin's 3 October 1668, admitted a freeman 23 March 1696, elected one of the forty,eight 17 September 1697, an alderman 14 August 1705, married at St. Mary's 2 June 1698 Mary, daughter of AId. Edmund Johnson of Leic., and by her, who died in 1754, had issue eighteen children (vide St. Martin's registers). His eldest son Edmund, was mayor in 1739. Isabella, his youngest daughter, born 1718, married Rev. Gerard Andrewes, sometime vicar of Syston and later vicar of St. Nicholas', Leic. Their son, Rev. Gerard Andrewes, was dean of Canterbury 1809,1825.
AId. Ludlam was again mayor in 1719. He died 6 and was buried at St. Martin's 9 January 1725,6, aged fifty,seven. M.I. there to him and his wife. Will proved in the P.C.C., London, 6 April 1726. He desired to be buried by the graves of his "dear father and mother," left substantial legacies to members of his family and £50 to the mayor and burgesses of Leic. upon trust for the benefit of the eight poor widows of St. John's hospital.
