1722   HUMPHREY CHAPMAN, (Baker).

Son of Joseph and Frances Chapman of Newbold Verdon, co. Leic., where he was baptized 9 February 1670. He was apprenticed to Thomas Taylor the younger, of Leic., baker, and on completing his term, was enrolled a freeman 11 May 1693, elected a councillor 26 December 1695, a chamberlain 1709 and an alderman 1716 j married at St. Mary's 25 April 1695 Elizabeth Gamble, by whom, who was buried there 25 September 1714, he had issue (vide St. Mary's registers).

AId. Chapman died at his residence in Southgate Street 15 and was buried at St. Mary's 18 April 1740, aged seventy. M.I. Will, dated 15 February 1739, was proved at Leic. 11 September 1740 by Thomas Chapman, his son and executor.
