Eldest son of Benjamin Roberts of Leic., currier, born about 1678, enrolled a freeman 13 April 1702, resided in High Street, elected a councillor 1704 and a chamber, lain in 1717. He possessed freehold property at Thur, maston and Barkby. His first marriage with Anne, daughter of James Brooks of Croft, co. Leic., took place there 22 June 1704. By her he had eight children, four sons and four daughters, several of whom died young (vide St. Martin's registers). Mrs. Anne Roberts died 21 September 1717, aged thirty,five, buried at St. Martin's. M.l. He married secondly by licence in 1718 Anne Dun, widow, of Leic. who survived him.
AId. Roberts died 14 and was buried at St. Martin's 16 September 1737, aged fifty,nine. M.l. to his memory on a slate stone, discovered a few years ago in a builder's yard, has been replaced in the south east corner of the churchyard. His will, dated 28 March 1734, was proved at Leic. 28 October 1737.
