Eldest son of William Miles of Leic., hosier, and a great

grandson of Ralph Miles who was living here about 1630. His baptism is recorded at St. Margaret's under date 3 February 1690,1. He was enrolled a freeman 31 January 1709,10, elected a councillor 1717, a chamber, lain 1731, an alderman 1737 ; married at St. Margaret's 3 January 1709,10 Mary, daughter and heiress of AId. John Pares, mayor in 1714, by whom, who died 24 July 1759, aged sixty,seven, buried at St. Margaret's, M.I. there, he had issue. Descendants still living.

Mr. AId. Miles died intestate and was buried at St.

Margaret's 5 June 1762. Administration of his effects, etc., was granted by the Prebendal Court of the Peculiar of St. Margaret's the same year.

Arms of Miles of Leicester and Keyham :- Azure, on a chevron engrailed between three knights' helmets or, as many mill,rinds sable. Crest :-An eagle rising erminois, collared, chained and charged on the breast with a mill,rind sable. Plate 7.
