1743   SAMUEL BELTON, (Woolcomber).

(32I)  

Descended from the Beltons of Goadby, co. Leic., be inin all probability a son of Samuel Belton of that place who died in 1716, and connected with the Beltons of Houghton on the Hill. He was born in or about the year 1679, apprenticed to Wm. Topp of Leic., wool, comber, made free of the borough 19 December 1707, elected a member of the common council 1720, a cham, berlain 1731, alderman in 1737 ; married and had issue. Robert Belton, his eldest son, was mayor in 1758 and his second son, Rev. Samuel Belton, M.A., born 1713, was successively vicar of Queniborough, Ratcliffe on the Wreake and Barkby until his death in 1783.

AId. Samuel Belton was buried at St. Martin's 17 June 1756, aged seventy,seven. Will, dated 7 April 1756, was proved at Leic. 14 July the same year by his son and executor, Robert Belton.
