The Watchorns, it appears, originally came to Leic. from Chadwell and Melton Mowbray. The above~named gentleman was a son of John and Mary Watchorn of Leic. He was baptized at All Saints' 7 December 1730, apprenticed in August 1746 to AId. Thomas T opp of Leic., hosier, premium £100, admitted a freeman 16 September 1757, elected one of the borough chamber~ lains 1767, later an alderman and again mayor in 1788. He carried on a small hosiery business in High Street but latterly lived in retirement in the Newarke.
AId. Watchorn died unmarried 28 December 1809, aged seventy~eight, and was buried at St. Martin's. M.L there. Will proved at Leic. 1810.
THOMAS BARWELL, (Maltster).
Eldest son of John Barwell of Leic., and born in 1732. He was made free of the borough 6 April 1754, was a
chamberlain 1771, resided for several years in the Bishop's Fee; married in 1754 Catherine Throsby and had issue several sons.
Mr. AId. Barwell only lived a few weeks after com~ pleting his year of office, dying 3 November 1782, aged fifty, he was buried at St. Margaret's 5 November. M.I. to him and his wife there. Will, dated 5 October 1782, was proved at Leic. four days after his death.
