1793      JOHN MANSFIELD, (Banker).

Stated in the Mansfield Pedigree in the/Heralds' College,

London, to be a son of Thomas Mansfield of the West Riding of co. York. He was born about 1739, came to Leic. and purchased his freedom 26 July 1775, paying the usual fine of £20, joining the corporation shortly afterwards. For a short period he carried on business as a mercer, but later embarked upon a banking career which proved successful. In 1786, he registered the family Pedigree at the Heralds' College and received a grant of these Arms:-Ermine, on a fesse wavy azure, a leopard's face argent between two bezants, or. Crest: An eagle rising argent, wings expanded, in the beak an annulet. Plate 7. In 1798 he purchased the manor of Birstall j married Mary, daughter of William Pank, esq., of Wandsford, Northants., by whom, who died 31 October 1787, aged forty-three, he had several children. Descendants still living.

Mr. AId. Mansfield died 24 September 1798, aged fifty-nine, and was interred in St. Margaret's church, yard. M.I. there to him and his wife.
