1795      WILLIAM DABBS, (Hosier).

Son of Thomas Dabbs, gent., of Seeking ton, co. Warwick,where he was baptized 7 May 1743, was admitted a freeman of Leic. as the late apprentice of Mr. AId. Thos. Phipps, 4 March 1768, resided in Friar Lane and carried on business as a hosier for some years in Cank Street. He married at St. Mary's, Nottingham, 5 July 1773 lane, daughter of Beaumont and Jane Topott of that town, by whom, who died at Leic. 21 March 1783, aged thirty-seven, buried at Seckington, M.l. there, he appears to have had issue.

Mr. AId. Dabbs died on Christmas Day 1800, aged fifty-seven. His remains were conveyed to Seckington and laid to rest by the side of those of his wife. Mural tablet in church there to him and his wife.

 

"In Memory of William Dabbs, Gentleman, late of Leicester, son of Thomas and Elizabeth Dabbs who departed this life the 25th December 1800 aged 57."

Arms of Dabbs of Warwickshire as borne by Sir Richard Dabbs or Dobbs, kt., Lord Mayor of Londontemp. Edw. VI, and probably used by members of the Leic. Branch:-Per pale argent and sable, a chevron engrailed between three unicorns' heads erased all counter changed. Crest:-A unicorn's head erased argent. Plate 6.
