According to the Burgess Roll he was the second son of Step hen Clarke, framework knitter, of London and descended from the Clarkes of Groby, co. Leic. Born 1748, he was admitted a freeman of Leic. 19 March 1779, later filling various corporate offices, resided and carried on a small business in Church Gate. He died unmarried 13 February 1812, aged sixty-four, and was buried in St. Margaret's churchyard. M.I. there.
