Parentage and ancestry not clearly established, but believed to have been descended from the Miles' of Cosby or Littlethorpe, co. Leic. Born about 1765, purchased his freedom as a "stranger" 8 May 1792; married in 1796 Mary Ellis, by whom he had several children. In 1797 he was a joint chamberlain of the borough; died 6 June 1821, aged fifty-six, buried at St. Margaret's. M.I. in the churchyard there. His kinsman, William Miles, coach~builder, continued for some years the business established by AId. Miles in Granby Place.
