Son of Edward and Martha Hodges of Leic. and probably descended from the Hodges family of Syston and Barkby, co. Leic. He was born 13 and baptized at St. Martin's 17 July 1773, purchased-the freedom of the borough as a "stranger" for £30 31 July 1816; married 1806 Mary Farmer, by whom, who died in 1839, he had one son, Dr. Edward Hodges, sometime of Syston and later of the city of Bath.
AId. Hodges retired from public life with the passing of the old corporation in 1835. He died 28 March and was buried at St. Martin's 2 April 1841, aged sixty-seven. Mural tablet in the church to him and to his wife.
