Son of Richard and Eleanor Harris of Leic., born in the Frog Island 10 October and baptized at St. Margaret's, Leic., 17 October 1777, purchased his freedom of the borough 21 January 1823, elected a councillor 26 December 1835 for East St. Mary's Ward, an alderman 1839 and appointed a J.P. in 1839 ; married twice and had issue by his second wife, Fanny Dove.
AId. Harris was the founder of the large hosiery firm of Richard Harris & Sons. He died at Leic. 2 February 1854, aged seventy~six, and was buried at the Welford Road Cemetery. M.I. Will proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury at London in June 1854, No. 460.
