1853 SAMUEL HOW, (Hosier).

This gentleman was the eldest son of Samuel How of Leic., worsted spinner. He was born in 1795, admitted a freeman 25 February 1820, elected a councillor for East St. Margaret's Ward 1 November 1836 and made an alderman 9 November 1850 ; married in 1822 Ann Fielding and had issue. He died at his residence, London Road, leaving a son and successor, 3 March 1862, aged s ixty's even, and was interred at the Welford Road Cemetery. His will, bearing date 11 June 1861, was proved at Leic. 12 July 1862 by his son, Samuel How, and William Fielding, both of Leic., the executors. Effects sworn under £1,500.

The How family, still represented, originally came from Whitwick in the county where they were living in the reign of Charles I, and settled in All Saints' parish in the eighteenth century.
