Son of George Viccars of Leic. and descended from an old Northants. family; born in 1808, elected a member of the borough council 1 November 1847 for East St. Mary's Ward, an alderman 9 November 1859 and ap~ pointed a J.P. in 1862, retired from the corporation in 1877. He married twice, (1) a Miss Mursell of Leic. and (2) Elizabeth, widow of Joseph Viccars, formerly Miss Purdon of Hull, having issue by both wives. Descendants still living.
Mr. Samuel Viccars died at his residence, De Montfort Square, 12 January 1888, aged seventy~nine. His remains were interred at the Welford Road Cemetery. M.I. there. Will proved at Leic. 16 May 1888 by Samuel Joseph Viccars of Leic., woolstapler, and William Purdon Viccars of Leic., spinner, two of the executors named. Personal estate and effects £6,217 18s. 5d.
