Son of Thomas Baines of Hallaton, co. Leic., where he was born 27 September 1815 ; was elected a member of the council for East St. Mary's Ward 17 February 1854, raised to the aldermanic bench 9 November 1866 and appointed a J.P. in 1869 ; married and had a numerous family. Descendants still living.
Mr. Baines died at his residence, 53, Princess Street, Leic., 7 April 1880, aged sixty~four, and was buried at the Welford Road Cemetery. M.I. there. Will proved at Leic. 17 July 1880 by Oeorge Henry Baines of Dane Hills View and Alexander Baines of 53, Princess Street, worsted spinner, sons, and William Bilbrough of 8, Piccadilly, Bradford, co. York., solicitor, the executors. Personal estate sworn under £9,000.
