Son of Thomas Stafford of Lutterworth j born there 20 December 1822, educated privately and also at Walcote, came to Leic. in 1836 and for some years was connected with Messrs. Swain & Co., cheese factors. In 1851, in conjunction with Mr. T. M. Evans, he started in business as a provision merchant and cigar manufacturer, and in 1856 he erected the extensive business premises in Camp bell Street. He married in 1847 Mary, second daughter of Thomas Gamble of Leic., and had issue, three sons and four daughters. Formerly a member of the Leic. Board of Guardians, Mr. Stafford entered the council 1 November 1859 for East St. Margaret's Ward. He was elected an alderman 17 August 1869, was mayor for two successive years and appointed a magistrate for the borough in 1873. He retired from the corporation in 1891, after twenty,nine years of active service. He died at Elmsleigh Hall, Stoney, gate, Leic., 16 August 1910, aged eighty,eight, and his remains were laid to rest in Knighton churchyard a few
