1875         WILLIAM BARFOOT, (Hosiery Manufacturer).

Eldest son of William Barfoot of Leic., and descended from the Barfoots of Belgrave and Thurmaston, living at the former place early in the seventeenth century. He was born 16 May 1828, admitted a freeman of the borough 25 May 1849, elected a councillor 31 December 1866 for West St. Mary's Ward, an alderman 5 May 1874 and appointed a ].P. in 1879. During his mayoralty the new Municipal Buildings were opened by him 2 August 1876. He resigned from the corporation in 1889, afterwards taking up his residence at Bournemouth where he died 17 October 1916, aged eighty,eight. His remains were conveyed to Leic. and interred at the Welford Road Cemetery a few days later. M.l. By his first wife, a Miss Hincks of Humberstone, he had issue. Probate of his will was granted at London 24 November 1917 to William Ernest Barfoot, gentleman, Walter Henry Aysom, solicitor, and Albert Henry Hampson, accountant. Effects £34,033 14s. Id.
