1883 GEORGE ANDERSON, (Linen and Woollen Draper).

A Scotsman by birth and descent, the youngest son of John and Agnes Fairservice Anderson, born at Muir, kirk, Ayrshire, 6 September 1812, the home of his ancestors for several generations. He settled at Leic. in 1832; was elected a councillor for Middle St. Mar, garet's Ward 1 November 1865 and an alderman 22 January 1878. A gentleman of a quiet and unassuming disposition, but ever ready in associating himself with schemes for the social and moral improvement of the people.

He married in 1841 Jane, a younger daughter of John and Ann Newton Stafford of Leic., by whom he had a family of one son and four daughters reaching adult age. Descendants still living.

AId. Anderson died at his residence, West Walk, Leic., 19 December 1889, aged seventy,seven, and was buried at the Welford Road Cemetery. M.l. there. His will with a codicil was proved at Leic. 18 March 1890 by

 

John Stafford Anderson of Leic., hosiery manufacturer, the son, William Cook Russell of W oodside Bank, Over Darwen, Lancs., Independent Minister, and Samuel Davis of Leic., Building Society manager. Per, sonal estate £2,618 15s. Od.
