Son of Joseph Wright of Northampton town where he was born 15 February 1838, educated privately and later artic1ed to Messrs. Beck & Co., Solicitors of that town. Before settling at Leic. Mr. Wright was a member of the Northampton corporation. He joined the Leic. council 1 November 1879 being returned for East St. Margaret's Ward, was elected an alderman 28 August 1888, appointed a J.P. in 1889 and again mayor in 1891. In 1885 he was appointed high bailiff of the borough and was an alderman of the Leics. County Council 1888,94. He was the first gentleman to receive the honorary freedom of the borough under the Act of 1885, which was conferred upon him 25 October 1892, and presented 9 November the same year, in recognition of his services in connection with the extension of the borough boundaries 1890,1. He resigned the corporation in June 1898. Founder of the Children's Hospital at Leic.; married 10 June 1862

Georgina Eliza, daughter of Peter Roberts of Northampton, and had issue. Descendants living.

AId Wright was KNIGHTED by Her Majesty Queen Victoria 11 August 1893 and shortly afterwards obtained a grant of Arms and Crest from the Heralds' College, London. He died at his residence, "The Hollies," Stoneygate, 5 August 1905, aged sixty,seven, and after cremation at The Gilroes Crematorium, his ashes were deposited at the Welford Road Cemetery. Probate of his will was granted at Leic. 30 August 1905 to Thomas Harry Wright and Arthur Ernest Wright, solicitors, the executors. Effects £41,148 17s. 4d. Resworn May 1907 £42,089 8s. 6d.

Arms :-Or, on a pale gules, a cross botonny fitchee argent, a chief azure, thereon a pale ermine, charged with a rose gules, barbed and seeded proper, between two bezants. Crest :-Upon a wreath of the colours, upon a rock, a falcon's head erased proper, holding in the beak a cross botonny fitchee in bend argent, and charged on the neck with a rose as in the arms. Motto:­TAM ARTE QUAM MARTE. (The same in peace as in war). Plate 7.
