Son of William Wood of Leic., formerly of Derby and born at the latter place 16 January 1839, educated at Leic. He entered the council 10 September 1880 for East St. Mary's Ward, elected an alderman 9 November 1886, again mayor 1895 and 1901. For many years he was chairman of the Gas and Water Committees and deputy chairman of the Derwent Valley Water Board. ].P. for Leic. 1889 and for the county. The honorary freedom of the borough was presented to him 9 Novem, ber 1892 for services rendered on behalf of the town.
During his first mayoralty 31 May 1998, the new Childrens’s Hospital at Leic. Was opened by H.R.H. the princess Louise. He married in April 1861 Annie, daughter of Thomas Sewell of Uppingham, amd by her who died 16 October 1907, had issue.
Ald. Wood recieved the further honour of KNIGHTHOOD 29 June 1906. He died at his residence, Shirley Lodge, Knighton, 22 September 1917, in his seventy-ninth year, and was interred in the family vault at the welford Road cemetery. M.I. His will was proved at Leic. 23 January 1918 by Robert Hyslop, gentleman, Herbert William Wilshere, chartered accountant, and the public Trusteee. Effects £172,649 1s. 9d.

During his second mayoralty 20 June 1896, The Royal Agricultural Show held at Leicester, was visited by the Prince of Wales and the Duke of York; attendance 146,277; gate money £10,622 15s. Od.
