Son of George Sawday of Sidmouth, Devon, where he was born 21 December 1851, educated at Binfield House School, Stockwell, afterwards artic1ed to J. E. Goodchild, architect, of London. He came to Leic. about 1872 and later commenced to practice here as an architect and surveyor, was ex~president of the Leic. Free Church Council, Hon. Sec. of the Leic. Liberal Association j married in 1878 the eldest daughter of the late Dr. Thomas Brown of London, and had issue.

Mr. Sawday joined the borough council 1 November 1888 representing No. 4 Ward, became an alderman 9 November 1894 and was appointed a magistrate 1899. He died at Hastings 3 June 1923, in his seventy~second year and was buried at the Welford Road Cemetery, Leic. Probate of his will was granted at the Principal Registry, London, 13 September 1923 to Tom Trevor Sawday, architect. Effects £23,028 16s. 6d.
