Son of William Bruce of Leic. and born here in 1843; educated at the AId. Newton's School, was a freemason and a member of the St. John's Lodge, a strong politician on the conservative side. He embarked at an early age in the Elastic Web trade, and for some years was head of the firm of Messrs. Bruce & Sons, South Wigston. He joined the town council 16 June 1893, later in 1899 was appointed a J.P., but resigned from the corporation in 1907.
Mr. Bruce died at his residence 184, London Road, Leic., 14 January 1924, in the eighty,first year of his age and was buried at the Welford Road Cemetery. Probate of his will was granted at Leic. 21 July 1924 to Arthur William Bruce, elastic web manufacturer, Charles Henry Spencer, chartered accountant, and Harry Roberts, boot and shoe manufacturer.
