Son of Samuel Chitham of Market Bosworth where he was born 7 August 1858 and believed to be descended from the Chithams, anciently written Cheetham, of Notts. and Derby. A member of the latter family, Thomas Cheetham, surgeon and apothecary, died at Loughborough in 1785.
Mr. George Chitham was educated at the Market Bosworth Grammar School, later settled at Leic. where he joined with the late Mr. John Hollingworth as a wine merchant; entered the council 24 July 1900 as one of the representatives for the De Montfort Ward, was elected an alderman 21 November 1912, appointed a magistrate for the borough in 1917 and resigned as a member of the corporation a few years ago.
Mr. Chitham, married a Miss Chater of Market Harborough by whom he has had issue, a son and a daughter. He is an ardent supporter of the local Conservative body.
(King Edward VII died 7 May 1910. His son, George V proclaimed King was crowned 22 June 1911).
