A Scotsman, son of Thomas McCall, and born near Dumfries 14 February 1857. Came to Leic. in 1874, was for a time a member of the Leic. Board of Guardians, entered the council for Latimer Ward in 1898 as a liberal, later represented No. 11, The Abbey Ward, and was appointed a magistrate in 1917. He married twice, (1) Sarah Ann Somers of Leic. and (2) Juliet, daughter of the late Mr. Stephen Skillington of Leic., who is still living. Issue by first wife only, two sons and two daughters.
Mr. McCall's death came suddenly and unexpectedly at his residence, 14, Salisbury Road, Leic., 4 May 1919, aged sixty~two, and he was buried at the Welford Road Cemetery. M.I. there. For some months prior to his death his health had given way through a nervous breakdown, causing some anxiety in the family circle and amongst his friends. Probate of his will was granted at Leic. 10 February 1920 to John Gibson, retired draper, and Joseph Sturge Collier, gentleman. Effects £21,567 12s. 10d.
