(Boot and Shoe Union Secretary)

 

Son of the late Watson George Parbury, of Northamptonshire. Born at Wollaston, near Northampton, on the 4th January, 1872, and was the youngest of a family of 13. The family moved to Leicester whilst he was still very young and at the age of nine he entered the boot and shoe industry as a quarter timer and in later years he became a leading figure in the industry and held various offices from 1904 until he was appointed permanent Secretary of the Leicester No. 1. Branch of the Boot and Shoe Union in 1912, which office he held until his retirement in 1932.

Always a staunch and active Trades' Unionist and a Member of the Labour Group, he was elected to the Council as a representative for the Wyggeston Ward on the 1st November, 1921.

He was raised to the Aldermanic bench on the 9th November, 1934. He has always taken a deep interest in the Health of the City and at the present time is Chair, man of the Health Committee. He has also served on the Watch, Transport, Gas, Parks, Farms and Old Age Pensions Committees.

He married in 1889 Thirza Walker, of Leicester, who died on the 17th September, 1940, during his year of Office, and by whom he had issue, one son and a daughter.
