Learning Project
Leicester Arts & Museums Learning and Leicester College, Creative Arts and Media Department and Photography have formed an exciting partnership enabling their students to be inspired and energised by the work of August Sander and consequently raise the profile of photography in the city.
Through research and enquiry building knowledge and depth, the students have allowed the influence of Sander to have a significant impact on their own pieces. There are many facets to the project that have led to the numerous outcomes; a lively discussion with Gerd Sander, working with contemporary artist Gareth McConnell, curatorial exhibition talks, design workshops and organising their own exhibition.
The students work is exhibited across the city throughout the duration of the August Sander exhibition and beyond, at specific external locations and through the use of digital technology in New Walk Museum & Art Gallery. A selection of Leicester College students work is shown on billboards and City Centre poster sites to mark the project during December 2012. Enabling the students to have the opportunity of a challenging and exciting range of formats in which to produce and showcase their work.
