Building Control

The Building Control Section administers the Building Regulations and maintains standards of health, safety and energy conservation in most building schemes, including new buildings, alterations and extensions.

 

Our aim is to assist you in providing high quality buildings in a time scale which keeps your costs to a minimum by providing a fast, efficient and cost effective building control service.

Our Building Control Service provides (through checking of submitted plans and information, and subsequent site inspections) an impartial, objective assessment of your work.

This includes:

  • pre-application advice and meetings

  • competitive quotation to provide a Quality Service

  • electronic submission of application

  • fast track checking of Building Regulations application

  • full plan checks

  • full third party check of submitted structural calculations where necessary

  • frequent same day site inspections (if requested before 10.00am), by experienced / qualified staff.

  • close working relationship with Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service  and other local service providers.

  • issue of Completion Certificate

Planning Portal

The Planning Portal web site provides a wide range of Building Regulations information, and advice on how to apply for various types of common building work. It also provides links to the Building Regulations and the Approved Documents.


Planning consents

Building works and changes of use usually need planning permission. Please see our Planning pages for further information. Also, special planning controls apply to conservation areas and listed buildings.


Private drains and sewers 

Note that from 1st October 2011 the responsibility for most private drains and sewers will be transferred to Severn Trent Water (STW) and if you intend to build within 3 metres of one of their drains or sewers you will need to consult with STW.
