 7. How can I apply for a blue (formerly orange) badge?

Any disabled person can apply for a blue badge (formerly orange badges) for their vehicle. They do not need to be the driver and the badge is issued for use in any vehicle carrying the disabled person. To apply:

 9. How can I report a repair needed to my council home?

Council tenants can find information on the repairs service and report housing repairs online via the Housing section of leicester.gov.uk.

 10. Can I make a claim for Housing Benefit?

Housing Benefit helps to pay rent for people on a low income or with savings below a certain level. For further details, please call one of the folliwing numbers:

 13. Do I need planning permission for an extension?

Planning permission is usually required before building work or changes of use to a property can go ahead. Please contact our Development Control Group for advice and information.

 15. How can I report rats in my property?

A free treatment service is available for treating infestations of rats in domestic premises. There is a charge for mice, fleas, cockroaches, bed bugs, wasps and other pests in domestic premises.

 17. How can I report an abandoned vehicle?

The council will investigate reports of untaxed abandoned vehicles and, where appropriate, remove them if they are abandoned on the highway. Abanndoned vehicles displaying a current tax disc are dealt with by the police.

 18. How can I dispose of old furniture?

The council operates a bulk waste collection service to collect and dispose of bulky household waste such as 3-piece suites, furniture and washing machines.

All householders are entitled to one free collection of up to five bulky items in any two month period. There will be a charge for any further items (the exact charge will depend on the number of items).

Garden waste (grass cuttings, hedge cuttings etc.) can be collected free of charge, up to a maximum of 15 items every two months. There is no charge the collection of fridges and freezers.
