New Walk Museum & Art Gallery
(In partnership with The City Gallery)

German artist Gerhard Richter is considered
to be one of the most important living painters in the world.

Gerhard Richter has exhibited work in every major gallery in the world from The Museum of Modern Art in New York to Tate Modern in London. His influence on the next generation of artists such as Damien Hirst has been enormous.

Epoch is taken from ARTIST ROOMS, a new national collection established by the dealer and collector Anthony d’Offay, jointly owned by Tate and the National Galleries of Scotland.

Anthony d’Offay was brought up in Leicester with New Walk Museum & Art Gallery providing a place of inspiration during his childhood and has generously loaned a selection of the artist’s multiples, especially for this exhibition.

The exhibition includes '48 Portraits' shown alongside several other significant works that show Richter’s diverse practice, from further portrait painting to more abstract images, photographs and prints.

Epoch is accompanied by a digital visual interpretation guide developed by young people. The guide showcases the results of an innovative project, young people worked with artists and designers to produce creative responses to the Gerhard Richter exhibition.

The iPad interpretation guide is available at designated times in the gallery. We welcome your own digital interpretation of the young people’s artwork. To submit your own work email lisa.jacques@leicester.gov.uk to be featured on the iPads in the new year.

For further details on all the works featured in the exhibition, visit the Gerhard Richter website including installation images of the exhibition.
