THE very best of fine local food and drink will take centre stage at Leicester Market this weekend for the city’s biggest and best culinary showcase.
Leicester’s annual Summer Food and Drink Festival takes place at Leicester Market on Sunday, May 29, from 11am to 5pm.
This year’s event will include a mouth-watering line-up of the best street food, local producers and farmers, cooking demonstrations, live music, a dedicated drinks zone and much more.
Food available will include tasty global delicacies as well as local treats with kebabs, burgers, American-style smoked meat, cupcakes, baked goods, and preserves – to name but a selection of what will be on offer.
Visitors will also be able to browse stalls selling hand-made arts and crafts.
The ever-popular drinks zone will serve a variety of refreshing summer drinks, including cold draught lager, real ale from some of the best local breweries, tasty Prosecco cocktails with a summer twist, and of course mocktails or other soft drinks for those looking for a non-alcoholic treat.
A live music stage will feature performances from some of Leicestershire’s best musicians.
TV chef and reality show star Rustie Lee will be running cooking demonstrations throughout the event, and members of the public will able to get inspiration and tips, while also being able to try the finished dishes.
The Jamaican-born celebrity has a strong affinity with Leicester, and is a lifelong Leicester City Football Club fan.
City Mayor Peter Soulsby said: “The Summer Food and Drink Festival is a real highpoint of the calendar in Leicester, and a chance for visitors to sample tastes from across the region and beyond.
“It’s an extremely popular event, and one that shows Leicester Market at its very best."
The festival is free to attend.
